Distress Tolerance Tools That Actually Help Me Tolerate Distress, on HealthyPlace

Distress tolerance skills are hugely important for anyone who experiences overwhelming emotions — like me! They’re really tricky to actually use though, because the emotions are so intense, they sort of short-circuit your brain, making you forget all the helpful tools you know you know. I’ve been making a really strong conscious effort to improve my distress tolerance skills lately, and I think it may actually be working! I outlined a few of my favorite distraction and self-soothing tools in my latest HealthyPlace article “How I Use Distress Tolerance Coping Skills When Everything Is Too Much.” They’re pretty basic, but they’re a start!
