This week I published my first HealthyPlace.com blog post in a series about resisting recovery from mental illness. This first article, Resisting Recovery: When Mental Illness Becomes Our Identity, explores my number one reason for resisting recovery. I feel like my sick self is my “real” self, and that means any time I start to get better, I panic and self-sabotage. Realizing this has been huge for me, so I thought I would write a series of blog posts exploring the various reasons people might resist recovery or sabotage their own improvement. My next post, Resisting Recovery: When You’re Sick of Trying to Be Perfect, will appear on HealthyPlace.com on March 19th, and I’ll post about it here!
